Sensor Bar Sucked Up
02-07-07

Sensor bar goodness. Just like our Mom's meatloaf, the fact that we don't get a steady diet of this type of damage gives us a better appreciation of it when we do get a sample...

" A'ight, I swear to god. My vaccuum wasn't even near the cord. So, it's time to clean the house. Dog fur everywhere, food crumbs from me eating at the Wii, that kind of thing. I made the mistake of leaving the Wii, along with the cords, on the floor whilst I vaccuumed. And, I guess it was the feather-like weight of the cord itself, I wasn't even two feet close to it. It shot right into the vaccum, tearing the sensor bar - along with some of it's entrails - right off the cord itself. Funny enough as it is, the plug actually stayed in the Wii."
I don't find the light-weight cord getting sucked into a vacuum cleaner as unexpected as he seems to. Vacuums by nature... suck. It's just what they do.

Gerbil Does the Unmentionable to Wii Sensor Bar
01-11-07

Similar to our rabbit submission from days gone by, this one too involves a small mammal that was on a mission to stop the fun from happening. Ed tells us about it...

"I was playing Castlevania 4 on the VC with my buddy Zach the other night while I let my gerbil (named "G-Money") run around my room for exercise. At the time we didn't notice anything was amiss since we were using a classic controller, and at the end of the night G-Money returned to his little gerbly home. The next day when I turned my Wii on the buttons on my wii-mote responded fine, but for some reason there was no curser hand. I peered over to my sensor bar only to see that the cord had been gnawed in half, and I gave my gerbil friend a stern talking to. Attempts to reconnect the cable have been fruitless, although the 2 candles setup will hold me over till I grab a 3rd party wireless sensor bar. -Ed"
Frankly I'm at a loss of words for Ed. I don't know whether to make fun of him for naming his gerbil "G-Money" or to just attack him for owning a gerbil period. Part of me wonders if Ed is right now in the process of setting his TV screen on fire with those candles.

Careless Parents Destroy Wii Sensor Bar
12-24-06

Well this puts our rabbit attack to shame as far as damage to the cord goes. Apparently parents are like rabbits in that they can't be allowed to roam around while your Wii system is sitting in plain sight. They will destroy it without warning.

"The picture shows what happened when my dad sucked up my sensor-bar wire into our vacuum. (I wish I had thought to grab the camera before he pulled it out of the vacuum - it was completely coiled around the beater-brush.) Thankfully I was only playing the original "The Legend of Zelda" with a GameCube controller so I could continue playing for a while, but other games (i.e. Wii Sports) will have to wait for a replacement."
Once again, I'm forced to eat my words regarding the wireless sensor bar. If didn't know that running your vacuum over wires wasn't a bright idea, then the wireless sensor bar could be for you.

Man Holds on to Remote, Throws Batteries Instead
12-15-06

Well this is a new one to me. He actually hit his sensor bar and gave it a crack. Not only did he hit the bar, but he hit it not with Wii Remote but instead opted for the batteries from the remote. They already have the wireless sensor bar, maybe now it's time for some sort spring-mounted, shock-absorbing sensor bar. On the other hand maybe people could just hang onto their remote a little bit better. Our submitter tells the story in his own words...

"my friend was playing Bowling on Wii Sports, one of the teeth on the battery cover ended up breaking. The battery cover came off and the batteries flew out of the Wiimote, one hit the sensor bar and the other almost hit my Wii. The Sensor bar now has one o the plastic cover pieces loose and the Wiimote somehow got scratches and the front end of it is cracked. both the sensor bar and Wiimote still work fine. also, the strap is intact."
The part that I'm still a little fuzzy on is "the teeth on the battery cover ended up breaking." How exactly does tha happen? That's like when we were kids and would run inside and say "Mom, you know Billy's arm? Well it 'ended up' being able to bend in ways that God never intended." Color me funny, but dontcha think there is more to that story?

Does Not Compute
12-02-06

This poor guy's Wii gave him the good ol "The system files are corrupted" error. Nintendo seemed to be uber speedy in sending him a new unit. Unfortunately the new one had the exact same problem! Considering this is our first submission on the topic I doubt it's very wide spread issue. Nintendo just sent a third unit the other day. If you're curious in learning how this one turns out you'll have to follow this submitter's blog.

In other news, this guy should not consider a career in Cinematography.

Disc Drive Malfunctions?
11-29-06

I have my doubts that this is a wide spread problem, for all I know the person who made the video dropped his Wii. Why the doubt? Because he couldn't even insert the disc on the first try in the video. It's a video man, you could have edited it however you like; yet you demonstrated how you are a likely candidate to be a remote chucker.
